Section 67.3, Register of Information Released

The Commission des services juridiques is the organization that oversees the legal aid network. The network offers its clientele legal services provided by lawyers who are bound by the rules of professional secrecy under their Code of ethics. Moreover, pursuant to section 91 of the Legal Aid Act and the rules of professional secrecy of lawyers, the Commission des services juridiques cannot disclose any information regarding legal aid clients.

As for lawyers in private practice and staff of the Commission des services juridiques, information is provided to the governmental authorities so that their accounts can be credited or debited with the amounts that the law requires to be paid or withheld. 

The Commission des services juridiques maintains a Personal Information Disclosure Register that allows any citizen to know whether personal information has been shared with a person or organization.

The register contains the following information:

  • the nature of the information or the type of information provided;
  • the name of the person or organization receiving the communication;
  • the purpose for which the information is communicated;
  • the indication, if any, that it is a communication of information outside Quebec;
  • the reason justifying this communication.
